Way back in September there was the Harvest Stompede at Ciccone's Winery & Vineyards. On Friday, May 2, Bill attended the Tasters Guild International wine competition in Grand Rapids
Here is Larry Mawby being videoed at a huge wine tasting at the Snake Club in Detroit, April 7 Here is one display at the wine event at Grand Traverse Resort back in February 27th.

This is the new home of Motovino in Northport. Around the corner from its previous location,

The last Saturday in April found the Brengmans celebrating St. Vincent's Blessing of the Vines. Cold, blustery, but wonderful. This is the new south side of Chateau de Leelanau's tasting room. You can't miss it!
Aurora Cellars is the new name of the former Circa Winery Opened at the end of June.. Construction continues on the Oosterhouse tasting room. "Bonobo" is the moniker they have chosen for their wines.

5 of the 6 "Best of Class Winners" in the 2013 Michigan Wine Competion were from WINERIES BY THE BAY.

and Linda Murphy, co-author with Jancis Robinson of American Wine, signed copies of her book and endorsed our book.

The expansion of wineries and vineyards continues apace.

Work has begun on the Villa Mari Tasting Room and wine caves, both on the west side of Center

Road. Here are photos looking up from the Fire Station, then from the top looking back.

Big LITTLE opened its tasting room with magnificent view south over vineyards.

Latest noted are Rove Vineyards expansion of their M-72 site. Brengman Brothers has planted its Cedar Lake site with Cab Franc, Merlot, and Muscat Ottonel. And there are new vineyards just west of where Lee Point Road heads east from M-72. The owners are K & K Farms of Southfield, Michigan. There is considerable space on the site for a tasting room. Brys Estate has expanded their vineyards to the east of their holdings. And it seems as if a few extra rows have been added to the Lardie's property and the Krupka vineyards. Chateau Chantal has filled in the space to the southeast quarter of their property. Hawthorne has extended its vines southeast.

The season has many events.

The Governor came Up North to honor MAEAP and the vineyards and wineries of Old Mission Peninsula.

Tasters Guild and Bowers Harbor Winery met at the Boathouse Restaurant. The day after WINES BY THE BAY was issued,

Brengman Brothers held a dinner for sixty or so. Then, at Ciccone vineyards, vraison has begun, and the Harvest Stompede was held.

A new Winery and Tasting Room has sprung up in the same building as Chateau de Leelanau: 3 Fires Winery (upscale wines) and Skipping Stone Cellars (wines for evryone). Most of their offerings come from the third Michigan AVA, Michigan Lake Shore in southwest Michigan, but they purchase grapes from all over Michigan (and only Michigan). One of their offerings is clearly a Leelanau wine.

The saddest note of the season is that the October rains produced powdery mildew in the vineyards. In some vineyards, the damage equalled a 50% of the crop.
